Here’s a quick way to ruin things

a quick way to ruin things

I know I write a lot about self-improvement, and that’s because I’m a big, fat fan of it. I LOVE an introspective person. I LOVE accountability. I LOVE seeing flaws and being able to relate. But today I was watching a really funny YouTube video (check out Matt Bellassai for serious hilarity but watch out… Read More Here’s a quick way to ruin things

When strangers like your spinach

September 18, 2017
Friendship, spinach, followers, instagram, social media, connecting

I was chatting with a dear friend yesterday, and we got onto the topic of friendships. And about quantities of Facebook friends – not our own, but others. OK, it’s a weird topic, just forget about that part. It got me thinking, though. Social media has done a lot of good for us – it… Read More When strangers like your spinach

Confession: Why I killed The Dynamom

September 13, 2017

I have a confession: I killed The Dynamom. Who’s The Dynamom? Well, she’s a writer. She’s blogged for years about parenthood – primarily opinion pieces – and doled out some decent-ass practical advice. So what’s my beef? Well, there’s no beef. The Dynamom is me. She WAS me, I suppose. I wrote as The Dynamom,… Read More Confession: Why I killed The Dynamom

All the ways my paychecks go to Target

September 7, 2017

Hi there. It’s me: the lady who lives at Target. You’ll find me by the checkout, stealthily checking my banking app to make sure I have enough to cover the mass of superfluous goods I’m proudly carting about the store. Well, I’m also checking my Cartwheel app—I’m not an idiot!—and I’m about to save $.03 on… Read More All the ways my paychecks go to Target

The ‘F-word’ you can call me

September 1, 2017

I’m fat. When I say that to friends, their knee-jerk reaction is to deny, to say, “No you’re not!” or “Stop! Don’t say that about yourself.” And, listen, I understand why they do that. The word ‘fat’ is so commonly used a weapon. But I’m not intending it that way. I’m not fishing for compliments… Read More The ‘F-word’ you can call me

4 things that surprised me when I got stuck in a train station

August 20, 2017

Backstory: My son and I made a quick (well, sort of) train trip from Seattle to Portland to attend the Portland Auto Show (he’s a big car fanatic). It was snowing. A lot. We got stuck. For a long time. Both ways. …and it could’ve sucked. I mean, some of it did definitely suck –… Read More 4 things that surprised me when I got stuck in a train station

I survived a $17 haircut

July 14, 2017

I’ll admit it: I’m relatively high maintenance when it comes to my hair. I rarely get it cut (mayyyybe three times a year), but when I do, I spend quite a bit. You know, cut, color, highlights… $200 later and I’m walking out of a semi-posh salon with a semi-decent look. It’s all good. However,… Read More I survived a $17 haircut

RANDOM THOUGHTS

*thinks about my meal choices today

“Wow, I ate really healthily!”

*remembers I ate a lemon bar

*and the rest of the birthday cake

It’s not the MAIN MEALS that are the problem, it’s the BETWEEN MEAL MEALS AND SOMEONE NEEDS TO CREATE AN APP WHERE YOUR WHOLE HOUSE LOCKS DOWN AND YOU CAN’T OPEN YOUR FRIDGE OR PANTRY UNTIL THE NEXT ACTUAL MEALTIME BECAUSE I WOULD BE SO SKINNY
